The Selective Service System has recently been the subject of much controversy, debate, and finally, legislative action. This article presents an analysis of the practical effect of the law (who gets drafted), paying particular attention to deferment policies. The authors also examine the proposals and modifications recommended to Congress. Finally, they suggest the probable consequences of those modifications that were enacted into the 1967 legislative revision of the "Draft Law."
